Positions for Substitute Nutrition Service Workers in our elementary and secondary schools have been declared open in the Weber School District. These are on-call positions, 9 months out of the year. Applicants may apply at wsd.tedk12.com/hire.
Purpose Statement
The job of substitute nutrition service worker was established to cook, bake, and prepare food items that meet mandated nutritional requirements and requests of students and school personnel and maintain facilities in a safe and sanitary condition.
Essential Functions
- Bakes one or more items to meet projected meal requirements.
- Checks students and staff through the food line to record food purchased and collect monies.
- Cleans utensils, equipment, storage, food preparation, and serving areas to maintain required sanitary conditions.
- Cooks food, prepared and from scratch, to meet mandated requirements and projected meal requirements.
- Inspects food items and supplies to verify the quantity and specifications of orders and comply with mandated health standards.
- Able to lift up to 30 pounds of food, supplies, etc., to prepare and serve meals.
- Able to lift up to 40 pounds for stocking, storing, preparing, serving food, and cleaning and storing equipment. (e.g., food, supplies, equipment)
- Monitors kitchen and cafeteria areas to ensure a safe and sanitary working environment.
- Reports equipment malfunctions to the unit manager to maintain equipment in safe working order.
- Responds to inquiries from students, staff, and the public to provide information and direction regarding the type and cost of meals.
- Serves one or more food items to meet mandated nutritional requirements and requests of students and school personnel.
- Stocks food, condiments, and supplies to maintain adequate quantities and security of items.
Other Functions
- Assists other personnel to support them in completing their work activities.
Job Requirements
- Must be able to adhere to safety practices.
- Must have knowledge of quantity cooking, safety practices and procedures, and health standards and hazards.
- Must be able to adapt to changing work priorities.
- Must meet deadlines and schedules.
Education
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must have a food handler's permit
Substitutes who terminate their services with Weber School District are requested to submit a resignation notice to Human Resources via Employee Online. If written resignation is not received and a substitute is inactive for 365 days, they will be terminated as a substitute.
The employee may re-apply the following school year if removed from the substitute pool due to inactivity. Rehiring will be based on Weber School District's hiring needs.
