Description

A position has been declared open in the Weber School District for a Preschool Special Education Life Skills Paraeducator. This position is for 3.5 hours per day, 180 days per year. Total hours per week are 14 and will only work 4 days a week, (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday,Friday from 8:15 am - 11:15 am)

Job Description: 

This position assists a certificated teacher and/or related service staff in instructional and non-instructional activities for preschool age students. purpose/s of assisting assigned teaching personnel in the supervision and instruction of special education students; performing classroom clerical tasks; and assisting students by meeting special health care needs and developing students' daily living and behavioral skills.

 

Primary duties include, but are not limited to, engaging in the following activities with support and direction:

 

  • Collect data regularly regarding skills across developmental domains.
  • Under the direction of the classroom teacher, instruct students regarding developing peer interactions and social skills.
  • Adapts classroom work under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of providing a method to support and/or reinforce lesson plans.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Utilize safe and appropriate procedures when managing students with challenging behavior
  • Administer assistance to medically fragile childrenImplement positive behavior supports, behavior plans, and interventions as needed.
  • Maintains students' files/records for the purpose of documenting activities and/or providing reliable information.Monitors individual students, classroom, playground activities, etc. for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or administrator in providing records/materials.
  • Assists with daily living skills (e.g. toileting, changing diapers, feeding, personal hygiene, etc.) for the purpose of demonstrating skills and/or providing needed care. 
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with preschool teams.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Remain flexible with changes in assignments and situations.
  • Relate to special needs students in a positive and confident manner
  • Organize work, problem solve, and select action plans \
  • Attend to details and follow tasks through to completion
  • Monitor student behavior and make quick, effective decisions
  • Remain calm in crisis situations
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Exercise good judgment and maintain confidentiality
  • Regular attendance at work is critical
  • Comply with school board policies and follow administrative procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

 

BASIC PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds for the purpose of diapering, performing transfers, transitions, and position changes
  • Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, and sitting in student-size chairs) for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to move from sitting on floor to standing position repeatedly
  • Must be able to utilize quick body movements to maintain safety and implement student behavior plans

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Willing to participate in required district and school trainings
