Description

A position has been declared open in Weber School District for a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. This position is for 6.40 hours per day; 5 days per week; 182 days per year with an option for flexibility.

Job Description:

 

Under the direction of the Occupational Therapist and Special 

Education Department, the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant performs the following duties, but not limited to:

  • Treat student by using therapeutic and self-care activities designed to improve function under the direction of the occupational therapist (OTR)
  • Monitor a student's activities to make sure they are performing them correctly and to offer encouragement
  • Contribute to meetings and student planning to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care plans for patients
  • Document student’s progress in appropriate records
  • Maintain the therapy areas, equipment, and supply inventory
  • Instruct students, their families and any other caregivers in skills and techniques of the student's treatment program, under supervision of the Occupational Therapist
  • Document occupational therapy services to guarantee responsibility of service provision
  • Implementing appropriate treatment to meet individual student objectives
  • Providing recommendations for accessibility
  • Deliver direct services
  • Track progress for the purpose of reporting student progress and documentation of services
  • Ensure paperwork is completed in a timely manner
  • Communicate with parents and school teams regarding needs of student in relation to their educational services under the direction of the Occupational Therapist
  • Maintain flexibility, such as changes in staff or individual student programs
  • Attend required district meetings and events
  • Drive to schools throughout the district
  • Regular attendance is critical
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned

 Qualifications: Education Requirements:

  • Must have at least a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant degree
  • Must have a valid Utah COTA license
  • Recent pediatric or schools-based experience is preferred

 Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: 

  • Requires the mobility to reach and bend (neck and back)
  • Requires mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects
  • Requires mobility to maneuver through classroom and school environments independently
  • Requires lifting and carrying of objects of up to 50 pounds, which may be a frequent aspect of the job
  • Requires pushing or pulling objects weighing up to 100 pounds, which is a rare aspect of the job
  • May require working with bio-hazards (blood borne pathogens, human waste, cleaning/disinfecting materials, etc.)
  • Requires independent transportation throughout the Weber School District geographical area
