A position has been declared open in Weber School District at Mountain View Jr High for a Secondary Aide (Emphasis: Student Advocacy). This position is for 5.75 hours per day, 9 months per year.

Purpose Statement:
The job of the Student Advocate Aide was established for the purpose/s of assisting junior high school students who may be below proficiency and need additional support. Under the direction of the designated Lead Counselor, to develop their skills, receive support, and communicate with educational stakeholders while offering them education. Providing educational support to students to improve their academic skills using class time for student instruction and remediation; maintain the necessary contracts and files on students; and communicating student progress with parents/guardians and with teachers.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
- First and foremost, the successful candidate must have a desire to make a difference in students' lives.
- Provide guidance and advocacy to students to ensure they meet academic and behavioral requirements to move the next grade level.
- Make students and their families aware of school and community resources.
- May monitor attendance and discipline, communicating with administration, counselors, students, and families.
- May work with students in the Weber Innovation Early College High School as part of their support system.
- Complete progress reports; counsel students on good study skills, take attendance, advocate for students and promote the program in the junior high in addition to other duties.
- Communicate accurately and timely with students and their families to ensure a continuous school/family partnership exists.
- Evaluate student progress including attendance, academic, and behavioral data.
- Coordinate with community partners to build resources.
- Keep accurate records of student, parent, staff, and community contacts.
- Participate in stakeholder conferences to develop student action plans.
- Assist with the supervision of students during instructional and non-instructional time.
- Support a positive school climate while interacting with students, families, staff and community members.
- Maintain confidentiality when dealing with students, families, staff, and community members.
- Perform moderate to extensive physical activity including frequent standing or walking.
- Facilitate social and emotional growth with students.
- Improve professional competence through professional development.
- Participate in staff meetings at both site and district levels.
- Substitute in classrooms where needed.
- Work one-on-one with students.
- Work in small groups with students.
Job Requirements and Minimum Qualifications (Skills, Knowledge and Abilities):
- Must be able to operate standard office equipment; preparing and maintaining accurate records, utilizing pertinent software applications; and utilizing problem solving techniques.
- Must have knowledge of instructional/tutorial procedures and practices; intervention techniques; age appropriate activities; stages of child development; and safety practices and procedures.
- Experience: Job related experience is required.
- Education: Targeted job related education that meets organization’s prerequisite requirements.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
