Job Overview:
The job of Plumber was established for the purpose/s of maintaining plumbing systems to provide comfort, sanitation and safety within facilities; meeting appropriate trade related accessibility codes for students, staff and the public; meeting other building safety and health codes; and ensuring adequate materials are available for timely completion of job functions.
Essential Functions:
- Coordinates with administration and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.
- Diagnoses problems and/or failures in plumbing systems for the purpose of identifying activities necessary to maintain equipment and systems.
- Installs plumbing systems and fixtures (e.g. hot water heaters, drinking fountains, bathroom fixtures, piping systems, heating systems, pumps, motors, washers, dryers, etc.) for the purpose of providing comfort, sanitation and safety within facilities.
- Performs functions necessary for the prevention of cross-connection backflow (e.g. develops, reviews and maintains district safe drinking water policies and guidelines; attends state training seminars and programs; reports backflow problems; inspects installation, operation and use of district backflow prevention assemblies and water using equipment ; repairs, overhauls, and maintains backflow prevention assemblies; decontaminates and cleans up pollution or contamination of district water systems due to backflow) for the purpose of supporting school site operations and ensuring the compliance with state and district requirements.
- Performs routine preventive maintenance on equipment, fixtures, etc. (e.g. a truck, boilers, heating systems, condensation systems, steam traps, pressure relief valves, hot water heaters, coils in heat exchangers, checking for gas leaks, testing boiler samples, unplugging sewers, toilets, drinking fountains, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items in good working condition.
- Prepares documentation (e.g. work orders, regulatory reports, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
- Renovates plumbing systems for the purpose of complying with building codes and meeting accessibility/functionality requirements of students, staff and the public.
- Repairs school site plumbing, equipment and components (e.g. faucets, mixing valves, steam leaks, insulation on boilers and lines, bearings and couplings on pumps, toilets, etc.) for the purpose of providing renovation and preventive maintenance of plumbing systems.
- Repairs school site plumbing, equipment and components (e.g. gas regulator, kitchen equipment, steamers, dishwashers, 3 compartment sinks, ice makers, kettles, stoves, ovens, etc.) for the purpose of providing renovation and preventive maintenance of plumbing systems.
- Installs and maintains control valves, circuit setters, wye strainers, etc.
- Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at the job site.
Other Functions:
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
- Trains custodians in backflow issues and prevention approaches for the purpose of supporting department functions and staff.
- Assists with snow removal (e.g. shovels, operating snow blower and/or snowplow, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a safe environment.
Physical Demands:
Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work also requires the following physical abilities in order to perform the essential job functions; balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.

Job Requirements and Minimum Qualifications (Skills, Knowledge and Abilities):
- Must be able to do plumbing, operating equipment used in trade.
- Must have knowledge of plumbing, controls, heating systems, general maintenance, backflow and cross-connection issues and inspection/prevention/correction techniques, district heating and water systems, safety practices and procedures; backflow testing and installation; and health standards and hazards.
- Must be able to adapt to changing work priorities; and meeting deadlines and schedules.
- Experience: Job related experience within specialized field is required.3-4 years preferred
- Education: Targeted job related education that meets organization's prerequisite requirements.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have a current drivers license.
- Must be able to operate equipment used in trade including general hand and power tools, saws, manlift, forklift, etc.
- Must have knowledge of safety practices and procedures; and health standards and hazards.
- Must be able to adapt to changing work priorities; and meeting deadlines and schedules.
