A position has been declared open in the Weber School District in Maintenance for a Carpenter. This position is for 8.00 hours per day, 12 months per year.
THIS POSITION WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL FILLED, AFTER A MINIMUM OF 5 WORKING DAYS
Purpose Statement/Job Overview
The job of Carpenter was established for the purpose/s of completing construction projects safely within budget and established time frames; ensuring efficient and safe utilization of space; producing required cabinetry and furnishings.
Essential Functions:
- Assists with snow removal (e.g. shovels, operating snow blower and/or snowplow, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a safe environment.
- Builds items (e.g. counters, brick/concrete projects, stairs, skirting, roofs, temporary partitions, etc.) for the purpose of modifying and/or adapting facilities to specific needs.
- Coordinates with administration and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.
- Inspects roofs, gutters, drains, etc. for the purpose of identifying potential repairs and providing an ongoing program of preventive maintenance.
- Installs roofs, gutters, curbs for swamp coolers/rtus’s, skylights, vents etc. for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a safe, comfortable and operating condition.
- Repairs roofs, flashings, gutters, etc.(e.g. shingles, metal/rolled roofing, pvc/tpo, foam, wet patch, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining facilities in safe, comfortable and operating condition.
- Estimates materials and/or equipment needed to complete work projects for the purpose of ensuring timely completion of projects.
- Installs system component parts, classroom and office equipment and facility components for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a safe, comfortable and operating condition.
- Maintains files and records (e.g. time and/or materials used on work orders) for the purpose of ensuring an up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance.
- Maintains tools and/or equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.
- Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
- Remodels office and work space including partitions, paneling, etc. for the purpose of ensuring safe and efficient utilization of space.
- Repairs or replaces various items, systems and/or components (e.g. furniture, walls, doors, bleachers, Laminate, auditorium seats, restrooms, basketball backboards, cabinets, tile, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition.
- Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
Other Functions • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Physical Demands:
Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work also requires the following physical abilities in order to perform the essential job functions; balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.

Job Requirements and Minimum Qualifications (Skills, Knowledge and Abilities):
- Must be able to adhere to safety practices; and operating equipment used in snow removal, construction and/or demolition.
- Must have a broad knowledge of carpentry, including equipment usage and maintenance; knowledge of general construction work; masonry; safety practices and procedures; and health standards and hazards.
- Must be able to adapt to changing work priorities; and meeting deadlines and schedules.
- Experience: Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must have a current drivers license.
- Must be able to operate equipment used in trade including general hand and power tools, saws, manlift, forklift, etc.
- Must have knowledge of safety practices and procedures; and health standards and hazards.
- Must be able to adapt to changing work priorities; and meeting deadlines and schedules.
