Job Description/Overview:

 

We are seeking an experienced, part-time secondary teacher to serve as a Secondary Teacher Leader to conduct Stay Interviews for new teachers within our district. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the challenges and rewards of teaching and a passion for supporting and retaining new educators. This role involves conducting stay interviews with recently hired teachers to identify factors that influence their job satisfaction and commitment to the profession.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Stay Interviews: Schedule and conduct one-on-one interviews with new teachers (typically within their first five years) to assess their experiences, challenges, and reasons for staying with or leaving the profession.
  • Data Collection & Reporting: Document key findings from interviews, identifying trends and areas for improvement. Provide detailed reports to HR and school administration with actionable insights.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive information shared by teachers.
  • Feedback & Support: Offer support and guidance to new teachers, connecting them with resources and opportunities for professional development as needed.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the HR department to implement strategies aimed at improving teacher retention based on interview feedback.
  • Flexibility: Adapt to varying schedules of teachers to ensure interviews are conducted at convenient times during contract hours.
  • Mentorship: Provide basic mentorship and support to new teachers until more formal support can be established. 

Working Conditions:

  • Hours: Flexible schedule with an estimated 2 hours per week, depending on the number of new teachers assigned to each caseload.
  • Location: Interviews will be conducted in person at various school sites within the district with a possibility of some interviews being conducted virtually.

 

Job Qualifications:

  • Teaching Experience: You must be a current part-time classroom teacher with a minimum of 3 years experience.  
  • Availability: Must not be a full-time classroom teacher; ideal for teachers with a reduced or part-time schedule.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with new teachers.
  • Empathy & Understanding: A deep understanding of the challenges faced by new teachers and a commitment to their well-being and success.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage schedules, conduct interviews, and report findings efficiently and effectively.
  • Confidentiality: Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Has knowledge of Weber School District policies and procedures and is able to offer basic support and resources. 
  • Valid Utah Professional Teaching License.
  • Requires a Utah State Board of Education (USBE) approved cleared criminal background check.
  • Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

 

Physical Requirements (not an exhaustive list): 

  • Remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a computer and computer printer.
  • Occasionally ascend/descend stairs to access different levels of the building.
  • Have the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. 
  • The job occasionally requires light physical exertion including walking, standing, and other forms of light physical activity.
