A position has been declared open in the Weber School District at Roy Elementary for an Elementary Aide [Emphasis/es: Physical Education (PE)]. This paraprofessional position is for 3.20 hours per day, 9 months per year.

Job Summary:

 

Under the direction of the principal and teacher(s), the Elementary Aide assists teachers in a variety of capacities in the instruction and supervision of students.  Attendance, physical presence, and timeliness are required and are essential functions of this position. As school needs change, your job description and essential functions could change from year to year to include Playground, Lunchroom, Classroom, STEM, Art, etc.)

Essential Functions:

  1. Assists in the preparation of instructional materials.
  2. Assists in the instruction of students and other classroom activities as needed.
  3. May tutor students individually or in small groups under the direction of the teacher.
  4. Assists with physical and emotional maintenance of students with disabilities including assessing curriculum and participating in school or classroom activities. 
  5. Assist students needing supplemental help with various school subjects and programs. 
  6. Assist in the administration of a variety of tests and monitor students’ academic progress.
  7. Keeps accurate data on assigned students or groups of students.
  8. Supports a school environment that helps students develop and maintain a positive self-concept.
  9. Support classroom behavior management to maintain a positive and focused learning environment.  
  10. Maintains professional confidentiality regarding student information.
  11. Maintains effective and positive communication with students, teachers, parents, patrons and administration.
  12. Positive interaction with students, teachers, social workers, psychologists, support personnel and administrators.
  13. Assists in school events at the direction of the principal
  14. Requires ability to work effectively with staff and students
  15. Requires ability to exercise emotional control in difficult situations.
  16. Requires ability to solve a variety of problems relating to individual student needs and behaviors.  Problem solving is guided by policies and procedures set by administration and the licensed teachers.
  17. Requires knowledge of and assistance for the safety and security of students assigned to the classroom (e.g., helping students on and off buses on a rotating schedule, supervising play activities, field trips and lunches).
  18. Effectively implements interventions and strategies as outlined in Individualised Education Plans (IEP), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP), or other student success plans.
  19. Collects behavior data and provides reports and/or graphs of the data to school personnel for use in developing behavior intervention plans.
  20. Provides feedback about specific student needs.
  21. May assist in on-the-job training to other paraeducators as appropriate.
  22. Responds to critical situations in a variety of locations on a temporary, as needed basis.
  23. Demonstrates flexibility, the ability to work independently and problem solve.
  24. During times of emergency, all employees may be required to perform additional duties that are not required on a normal basis in support of educational and operational priorities. 
  25. Supervision of a student in a location outside the classroom as needed.
  26. Participate in professional development as directed by your administrator. 
  27. Must be able to work assigned hours.
  28. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the administrator.

Job Sub Category: PE

 

Assists the PE teacher in delivering quality instruction and promoting physical fitness and wellness among elementary school students. This position involves helping to plan and implement PE activities, ensuring student safety, and fostering a positive and active learning environment.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in demonstrating exercises and techniques to students.
  • Develop lesson plans with assistance from the district PE coordinator.
  • Provide guidance and feedback to students during PE lessons.
  • Organize, set up, and maintain sports equipment, props, and resources used in PE classes.
  • Ensure the safe and proper use of equipment by students.
  • Monitor students during physical activities to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Enforce safety rules and guidelines for all activities.
  • Be prepared to administer basic first aid as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining a positive and orderly atmosphere during PE classes.
  • Help manage student behavior and encourage respectful and cooperative interactions.
  • Assist with physical fitness assessments and record student progress.
  • Collaborate with the PE teacher to include students with disabilities and adapt activities to meet their needs.
  • Provide support and encouragement to students with diverse abilities.
  • Maintain and perform routine inspections of PE equipment to ensure it is in good working condition.
  • Report any equipment repairs or replacements needed.

Physical Requirements (including, but not limited to, the following):

  • Must be able to:
  • Remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Move about inside and outside the school to access files, students and machinery. 
  • Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, computer, computer printer.
  • Occasionally ascend/descend a ladder/stairs to access high objects or different levels of the building.
  • Constantly positions self to maintain files, students, or objects. 
  • Have the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. 
  • Have the ability to observe details at close and far range. 
  • Frequently move items weighing up to 50 pounds across the classroom for various needs. 
  • May work in outdoor weather conditions. 
  • Aides in Special Education and P.E. may be required to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Job-related experience preferred
