A position has been declared open in the Weber School District at Canyon View for a High Quality (HQ) Professional Behavior Aide/Registered Behavior Technician (RBT). This position is for 5.75 hours per day, 9 months per year.

JOB OVERVIEW: 

 

The job of High Quality Behavior Professional Aide (Registered Behavior Technician) was established for the purpose of supporting teachers with general education and special education students who demonstrate difficult behaviors during instructional and non-instructional activities. This will involve working with the district behavior team, principals, and classroom teachers to model, guide, and support students toward appropriate behavior through implementing behavior plans, utilizing positive behavior supports, and collecting data. This position implements and monitors intervention for students, implements classroom supports and models techniques for staff in teaching positive student behavior.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

Primary duties include, but are not limited to, engaging in the following activities with support and direction: 

  • Intervene with students demonstrating challenging behavior.
  • Utilize safe and appropriate procedures when managing students with challenging behavior
  • Interpret and implement written behavior plans
  • Engage in reinforcement strategies (desired items/actions, attention, or removal of demands/aversive situations) to increase the frequency or duration of safe and appropriate replacement behaviors and to build a repertoire of communication, social interaction, and problem solving skills
  • Utilize and model the implementation of positive behavior supports with students
  • Utilizes and models safe and appropriate prompting procedures to promote both successful and independent responding
  • Implements data collection systems, accurately collect and summarize data for the school and district
  • Collaborates with school team members to provide support effectively, and without disruption to the environment or other individuals in the environment
  • Model and train school staff on the implementation of specific interventions and procedures to address problem behavior

BASIC SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with multiple school teams
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Remain flexible with changes in assignments and situations
  • Relate to special needs students in a positive and confident manner
  • Remain calm in a crisis situation
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Exercise good judgment and maintain confidentiality
  • Comply with school board policies and follow administrative procedures 

QUALIFICATIONS - BASIC PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, and sitting in student-size chairs) for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to move from sitting on floor to standing position repeatedly
  • Must be able to utilize quick body movements to maintain safety and implement student behavior plans
  • Willing to participate in and utilize de-escalation techniques and MANDT training as needed.
  • Willing to participate in behavior training

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certification as Registered Behavior Technician preferred
  • Experience working with students preferred 
  • Willing to participate in required trainings (e.g. MANDT)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to provide own transportation to various school settings with reimbursement provided as applicable
