A position has been declared open in the Weber School District for a Gifted and Talented Teacher Leader. This position is for 4.00 hours per day, 182 days per year (9 months).  This position is grant-funded and subject to renewal every year, depending on available funding.

Position Overview:

 

The Weber School District seeks a Gifted and Talented Teacher Leader to support our gifted and talented students. This role involves collaborating with general education teachers and school staff to develop strategies and instruction that meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of gifted students. The Specialist will assist with gifted & talented testing and other assessment-related tasks.  This position is grant-funded and subject to renewal every year, depending on available funding.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support for Gifted and Talented Students: Guide and collaborate with classroom teachers to implement effective, research-based strategies that challenge high-ability students and promote critical thinking and lifelong learning.
  • Professional Development:Design and lead professional development sessions for teachers, focusing on content knowledge, pedagogy, and differentiated instruction methods. This includes training teachers on the definition and characteristics of gifted and talented learners to enhance their understanding and support of high-ability students.
  • Data and Assessment: Assist teachers and school staff in analyzing student data, planning instructional responses, and using assessment results to inform instructional practices.  Demonstrated understanding of educational research and application of data-driven decisions for programmatic and instructional improvement.
  • Collaboration: Actively support Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) within schools and departments, and participate in focus groups, department chair meetings, and advisory meetings.
  • Program Leader: Lead the Gifted and Talented Program to ensure equitable access to high-quality instruction for all students, including recommending differentiated learning experiences tailored to individual student needs, regardless of placement. Additionally, chair the appeals committee to address and resolve concerns related to student placement in the program.
  • Testing Logistics: Manage district universal testing, including interpretation of assessment data for teachers, parents, and stakeholders.
  • Policy and Ethics: Represent the district professionally, adhering to district policies and Utah’s Professional Practices.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Education and Licensure:
    • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
    • Valid Utah Professional Educator License with an Elementary License and a Gifted and Talented Endorsement.
  • Experience:
    • Proven experience working with high-ability students and collaborating with teachers to meet diverse learner needs.
    • Knowledge of gifted and talented education, including a range of research-based strategies and instructional approaches.
    • Familiarity with ability identification methods, assessments, and interpretation of assessment results.
  • Skills:
    • Strong communication skills (written, oral, and presentation).
    • Proficiency with educational technology and instructional tools.
    • Demonstrated organizational, time management, and multi-tasking abilities.
    • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills for working effectively with students, staff, and district-level personnel.
