Purpose Statement/Job Overview:
The job of Flooring Installer/Painter was established for the purpose/s of maintaining facilities for students, staff and public in safe, presentable operating condition; maintaining a preventive maintenance program; performing skilled maintenance to resolve immediate operational and/or safety concerns and overseeing other employees as may be assigned.
Essential Functions (not exhaustive):
- Prepares surfaces (e.g. cleaning, leveling, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that they are clean and level prior to installing floor coverings.
- Repairs damaged flooring for the purpose of ensuring a safe environment.
- Installs flooring in classrooms and/or offices (e.g. floor tiles, sheet vinyl, LVT, LVP, Broadloom, modular carpet, and moldings, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a safe, comfortable and attractive condition.
- Coordinates work projects with school administrative and custodial personnel for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Engraves plastic and brass signs and nameplates for the purpose of providing items as needed.
- Installs wall covering (e.g. vinyl, wallpaper, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining attractive facilities.
- Prep and paints district facilities for the purpose of maintaining facilities in an attractive condition.(Cut, Roll, and spray applications)
- Removes graffiti for the purpose of ensuring attractive facilities and minimizing disruption of the education process.
- Installs classroom and office equipment and facility components (e.g. floor tiles, sheet vinyl, floor coverings, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a safe, comfortable and operating condition.
- Maintains tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items in safe operating condition.
- Prepares documentation (e.g. cost estimates, requisitions, drawings, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
- Repairs various items, systems and/or components requiring skills of maintenance trades for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition.
- Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.
- Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.
Other Functions:
- Assists colleagues as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
- Attends meetings and seminars (e.g. staff, inservice, demonstrations on tools/equipment, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and or conveying information.
- Assists with snow removal (e.g. shovels, operating snow blower and/or snowplow, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a safe environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work also requires the following physical abilities in order to perform the essential job functions; balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.
Working Conditions:
Employees in this position work in a dynamic environment that requires them to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs. Will work on Ladders, scaffolding, and lifts.
Job Requirements and Minimum Qualifications (Skills, Knowledge and Abilities):
- Must have a current drivers license.
- Must be able to operate equipment used in skilled trades, power and hand tools, etc.; adhering to safety practices; handling hazardous materials; and planning and managing projects.
- Must have knowledge of a variety of skilled trades e.g. paint, concrete, carpet laying, floor tiles, etc.; pertinent state and federal regulations e.g. fire codes, ADA requirements, inspection requirements, etc.; supervisory and record-keeping; computer operation, including word processing and spreadsheet programs; and safety practices and procedures.
- Must be able to adapt to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working as part of a team; and working with constant and sustained interruptions.
- Experience: Related job experience within the specialized field is required.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
