Job Description:
Under the direction of the Occupational Therapist and Special Education Department, the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant performs the following duties, but not limited to:
- Treat student by using therapeutic and self-care activities designed to improve function under the direction of the occupational therapist (OTR)
- Monitor a student's activities to make sure they are performing them correctly and to offer encouragement
- Contribute to meetings and student planning to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care plans for patients
- Document student’s progress in appropriate records
- Maintain the therapy areas, equipment, and supply inventory
- Instruct students, their families and any other caregivers in skills and techniques of the student's treatment program, under supervision of the Occupational Therapist
- Document occupational therapy services to guarantee responsibility of service provision
- Implementing appropriate treatment to meet individual student objectives
- Providing recommendations for accessibility
- Deliver direct services
- Track progress for the purpose of reporting student progress and documentation of services
- Ensure paperwork is completed in a timely manner
- Communicate with parents and school teams regarding needs of student in relation to their educational services under the direction of the Occupational Therapist
- Maintain flexibility, such as changes in staff or individual student programs
- Attend required district meetings and events
- Drive to schools throughout the district
- Regular attendance is critical
- Perform other related duties, as assigned
Qualifications: Education Requirements:
- Must have at least a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant degree
- Must have a valid Utah COTA license
- Recent pediatric or schools-based experience is preferred
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Requires the mobility to reach and bend (neck and back)
- Requires mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects
- Requires mobility to maneuver through classroom and school environments independently
- Requires lifting and carrying of objects of up to 50 pounds, which may be a frequent aspect of the job
- Requires pushing or pulling objects weighing up to 100 pounds, which is a rare aspect of the job
- May require working with bio-hazards (blood borne pathogens, human waste, cleaning/disinfecting materials, etc.)
- Requires independent transportation throughout the Weber School District geographical area
